A-FITS serves students diagnosed with autism across a broad range of learning profiles, communication styles, support needs, strengths, and goals.
A-FITS serves students with autism who may be described as Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3, including students who need significant support and students whose academic abilities may be stronger than their ability to navigate a traditional school environment.
A-FITS serves students with autism who present with PDA profiles. Students with significant demand avoidance may need an individualized approach that emphasizes relationship, predictability, meaningful choice, flexibility, regulation, communication, and carefully designed expectations.
A-FITS also serves students with an MDSSI educational eligibility when the student's overall profile is appropriate for our autism-specialized model. MDSSI refers to Multiple Disabilities with a Severe Sensory Impairment. As with every student, placement is based on the complete learning and support profile rather than the eligibility label alone.
A-FITS serves academically capable students with autism who may be working at or above grade level but need a smaller, more structured, autism-specialized environment because of executive functioning, organization, social communication, Sensory Integration, emotional regulation, flexibility, anxiety, self-advocacy, or other support needs. Their autism diagnosis does not automatically mean their academics should be modified.
A-FITS also serves students who benefit from a functional academic pathway that connects reading, writing, mathematics, communication, and other instruction to daily living, community participation, employment, and growing independence.
Academic pathways are not always all-or-nothing. A student may participate in traditional academics in one subject and functional academics in another, or need strong academic instruction alongside significant life-skills, communication, sensory, behavioral, or executive-functioning support.
A-FITS is not a behavior school, but behavioral support is part of our expertise. We look at the student's complete profile and determine whether our program, staffing, campus, and supports can appropriately meet the student's needs.
We do not believe in choosing only one type of autism to educate. At the same time, responsible admissions means making sure A-FITS can safely and appropriately support the individual student within the available campus and classroom environment.
