A Stronger Tomorrow
Empowering students with the skills for greater independence.
Students shouldn't have to change who they are to fit into a school. The school should adapt to the student.
Why A-FITS →Empowering students with the skills for greater independence.
A community that understands, accepts, and celebrates each student.
Because every student deserves a place to belong.
Autism F.I.T.S. Academy began with a simple belief: students should not have to change who they are to fit into a school. The school should be willing to change to fit the student.
A-FITS was created to give Arizona families an educational option specifically designed around students with autism. We recognized that many students are capable of far more than traditional environments may reveal, but they often need a different combination of instruction, communication support, sensory regulation, behavioral support, social opportunities, and time to develop.
Rather than asking, “How do we make this student fit into the program?” we built A-FITS around a different question:
“What does this student need from us to learn, grow, and succeed?”
Today, A-FITS has grown into a Cognia-accredited private autism school that is setting the standard for autism education in Arizona, serving students across multiple campuses. The philosophy that started the school remains at the center of everything we do: the educational experience should be built around the learner.
Every student with autism brings a different combination of strengths, challenges, interests, communication styles, sensory needs, and goals.
Some students need significant academic support. Others need greater academic challenge but struggle with the sensory, social, or behavioral demands of a traditional school environment. Some need help developing communication and independence. Others need support with executive functioning, relationships, self-advocacy, or preparing for adulthood.
And many need several of these things at the same time.
A-FITS exists to bring those pieces together within one school experience.
F.I.T.S. originally stood for Functional Instruction & Transition Services, and those two ideas remain foundational to our philosophy.
Functional Instruction means making education accessible and meaningful to the individual learner. A student may need a different teaching strategy, additional visual or sensory support, modified materials, a different pace, another way to demonstrate knowledge, or opportunities to apply a skill in the real world.
The goal isn't simply to expose a student to curriculum. The goal is learning that the student can understand, use, and build upon.
Transition Services reflects an equally important belief: preparation for adulthood shouldn't suddenly begin during a student's final year of high school.
Communication, independence, self-advocacy, social skills, executive functioning, daily living skills, community participation, and eventually vocational exploration can be developed throughout a student's education.
It is never too early to begin preparing a student for greater independence and a meaningful future.
As A-FITS has grown, so has our understanding of what it means to truly build a school around the learner.
Functional Instruction and Transition Services remain our foundation, but today's A-FITS experience reaches further.
FITS Learning™ provides individualized academics and accessible instruction.
FITS Integrated Support™ brings Speech, OT, School Based ABA, sensory integration, and educational supports into the student's school experience.
FITS Life™ develops communication, social-emotional skills, executive functioning, self-advocacy, independence, and practical life skills.
FITS Experience™ gives students something equally important—a real school experience filled with friendships, electives, clubs, art, recreation, activities, celebrations, and opportunities to belong.
FITS Beyond™ connects education with what comes next through transition planning, vocational exploration, community experiences, life skills, and preparation for adulthood.
Together, they represent what A-FITS has become while preserving the philosophy on which the school was founded.
A-FITS has grown from an idea into an accredited school community serving families across Arizona, but our fundamental question remains the same:
What does this student need from us to succeed?
Not every student needs the same classroom. Not every student communicates the same way. Not every student learns at the same pace. And success will not look exactly the same for every child.
We believe a great school recognizes those differences without allowing them to define a student's potential.
